From Wednesday September 21, through Saturday, September 24, the will be held at the luxurious JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa, nestled up against Red Rock National Park, just west of the Las Vegas Strip. The resort is surrounded by the most prestigious golf courses in Southern Nevada, like TPC Las Vegas. The Technical Program, combined with Business Sessions, will offer three high caliber technical tracks with over 45 presentations. The Technical Program at the JW Marriott will feature a Keynote Session focusing on recent significant earthquakes and their affects: 2010 Chile Earthquake, 8.8 MW 2010 Canterbury, 7.1 MW, and 2011 Christchurch, 6.3 MW, Earthquakes, New Zealand 2011 Tohoku-Oki Earthquake, 9.0 MW, Japan A blue-ribbon panel will then discuss advancements to our profession, influence on government and building codes, and the public’s perception of earthquakes and structural engineering resulting from these significant events. The Technical Program concludes at the Bellagio on Friday afternoon for an exclusive, privileged behind-the-curtain discussion on engineering Cirque du Soleil’s surrealistic aquatic masterpiece, O. The discussion will be led by O’s Special Effects Manager and Production Manager. For those of you who are looking for a refresher to get caught up or would just like to sharpen your technical knowledge, we are offering something new . . . take an earlier flight on Wednesday and register for one or more Special Topic Seminars on: 2009 IBC and 2010 CBC Updates , presented by Jon Kiland, S.E., SEAOC Fellow, KPW Structural Engineers, Inc.
